Be commited to green business

January 5th, 2010

Rather than just investing on “high-tech” tools for greening up your business, time commitment towards green business is the first step that you need to take.

Whether we have time  to go green or not is not the real matter.  The willingness to commit the time to go green is the thing.

However, some companies aren’t willing to spend time and money to do sustainable business, since they think that greening the business requires a lot of money and time. In fact, there are many simple things that we can do to start sustainable business, one of them is by committing time to do it.

This can be started from opening the window rather than turning off air conditioner, printing on both side, washing dishes rather than using styrofoam cup or plate. These will only take a few seconds from our working hour and will bring significant impact on greening up our business.

What is more, regarding time, we should also set green strategy in place for few years a head. For example by having weekly/ regular meeting for discussing green strategy and enviromental issues that can be overcome by the company. By having willingness to cancel the appointment to play golf and focussing on attending weekly meeting about greening up your business, you could have greener activities in your business.

Getting on Board

Getting on board

“Eco Friendly”… “Environmental Friendly”… “Recycle”… “Green”… etc

No matter how people refer to it, they simply use references from books, online media, magazines, newspaper, or blogs and make the difference to become a more environmentally sustainable business. There are heaps of articles, journals and other readings about greenhouse effect, pollution, global warming and other need-to-know data that shows overwhelming argument about saving the planet and making it better for future generation. For example, Al Gore’s movie, “An Inconvenient Truth”, can be an eye-opening support for going green.

However, none of these information can hit home unless each of us embrace the idea, the fact that this is no longer the concern of a few scientist or ecology fanatics, but a real, truly global crisis that needs the attention of every individual, including all business entities.

It doesn’t matter if you only run or work-for small business. According to some research, 80 to 90 percent of businesses in the world are the small to midsize businesses, together, theses businesses can make a significant differences. The key is getting on board and embrace green.

Your first step is to understand that the overall goal isn’t just to plant more trees or save waters. It is simply about giving back to the earth whatever you have taken. Thus, green is about ensuring that the lifelines of all materials we use, sell and or manufacture from the earth are returned back in sustainable manner.
